On November 1, 2025 a Waves of Health team of fortyfive volunteers returned to Dajabon, Dominican Republic. With the help of our local partners (specifically the Metz and Carrasco families),over 1000 patients in four communities (Barrio Sur, LaVigia, Sabana Larga, and Los Menches) were seen and evaluated. Patients were triaged and treated for acute illnesses such as infections and asthma. Patients with chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes were evaluated and given six months of medications.
Patients over forty years old were screened and given reading glasses. Over 400 reading glasses were dispensed. All patients were screened for distance glasses. Over 125 patients were found to have decreased vision and evaluated and fitted with distance glasses via the Global Vision 2020 system. Over 800 sunglasses were dispensed. A point of care Ultrasound device (the Butterfly IQ) was used to precisely diagnose patients.
Waves of Health began a fluoride treatment program to prevent child tooth decay. 300 children were given fluoride treatments.
Families were given over the counter products, flip/flops, diapers and clothing.
