Recently, Our team of 64 volunteers has safely returned from the Dominican Republic after an incredible and impactful mission. Over the course of our time there, more than 2,000 patients were evaluated and treated.
One patient in particular left a lasting impression. A middle-aged woman from rural Sabana Larga arrived at our clinic after being stung by a bee earlier that morning. She was quickly triaged, but as she was brought into the exam room, it was clear she was not doing well. Within seconds, our team of ER nurses, physicians, and medical students sprang into action, surrounding her with focused urgency. Watching them work seamlessly together was powerful, it felt like a scene straight out of The Pitt.
Within minutes, she was stabilized and began to steadily improve. Before being discharged, our pharmacists ensured she left with the medications she needed, including antihistamines, steroids, and an EpiPen, critical resources that could protect her in the future.
Beyond moments like these, our team also focused on essential preventative and supportive care. We provided fluoride treatments, dispensed reading and distance glasses, and distributed sunglasses. We also handed out diapers, clothing, and school supplies—meeting everyday needs that make a meaningful difference in these communities.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, who worked tirelessly under challenging conditions. Their commitment, compassion, and teamwork are what make missions like this successful.
